Government asked President of Poland to extend the state of emergency for 60 days

The Council of Ministers has decided to ask the president to extend the state of emergency for 60 days, said government spokesman Piotr Müller. The application will be submitted to the president today.

The state of emergency in the border zone with Belarus (part of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie provinces) has been in force since September 2. It covers 183 towns (115 in the Podlaskie Voivodeship and 68 in the Lubelskie Voivodeship). It was introduced for 30 days under the ordinance of President Andrzej Duda, issued at the request of the Council of Ministers.

As you know, the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border is still very difficult. Since the beginning of this hybrid war, as it should be called, about 10,000 people have tried to cross the border. Every day, hundreds of migrants try to cross the Polish border illegally. The Polish Border Guard takes all measures, as well as the army and the police, to prevent this type of action. It is our duty to secure not only the border of Poland, but also of the European Union. In this case, the border is the same, therefore we are responsible not only for the security of Poles, but also for the security of the entire EU - said Piotr Müller.

We should remember that President Lukashenka's provocations may continue and we can also observe from the information that we receive from our intelligence services and other countries' intelligence services that these actions are organized in nature, - he added.
