Poland: We expect readiness to talk about reparations and the closure of the Nord Stream 2

The head of Polish diplomacy, Zbigniew Rau, met today with the head of the German Foreign Ministry Annalena Baerbock, for whom Poland is the third goal of a foreign visit since taking up her post.

"Poland and Germany are linked by centuries-old relationships, and the memory of the past still affects our contemporary relations," - says the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday. He added that "many issues have not been resolved to reflect the public's sense of justice."

"The area in which we still expect good, concrete cooperation from the German government is the question of Germany's responsibility for World War II and the contemporary aspects of this event. We must return talks about the return of cultural goods plundered by Germany, a possible development of a system of compensation for elements of Polish culture, art, monuments, archives, libraries that were destroyed, not as a result of hostilities, but as a result of the occupation authorities' efforts to erase them from the heritage of humanity," - Rau said.

He also stressed that Poland "expects the new German government to be ready to face this responsibility, also in the form of talks on compensation and redress."

Rau pointed out at a joint press conference that "the policy of previous German governments contributed to the threat to peace in Europe, which, driven by the prospect of economic gains, adopted the disastrous policy of cooperation with Russia in the construction of the gas pipelines - Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2".

"That is why Poland will constantly demand that this project, which is harmful to Europe, be closed. And our policy will not change on this matter," said Rau.
