FM: The risk of war is now greater than ever before

The risk of war in the European region is now greater than ever, said the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs head, Zbigniew Rau.

On Thursday, Zbigniew Rau participated in the meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna. The Council is a body that meets weekly at the level of Permanent Representatives of the OSCE Participating States. Meetings are held several times a year at the level of foreign ministers. The first meeting of the Council in the new year is used to present the program of the next presidency.

During his speech, Rau said that the OSCE states face particular threats to peace and security. - Prolonged conflicts, military confrontations, radicalization, terrorism, along with the increasing erosion of arms control regimes, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and profound violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals, lead to increased uncertainty, unpredictability, divisions, and fears growing in our societies - he said.

"It seems that the risk of war in the OSCE area is now greater than at any time in the last 30 years" - he said.
