Poland will not support "Fit for 55"

There is no way that Poland will support the EU's "Fit for 55" package in its current shape, as it would mean a very heavy burden for the Polish people, government spokesman Piotr Müller said on Tuesday.

"In this shape, it is absolutely out of the question. In this shape, this program would mean an exceptionally large additional charge for poorer people, middle-class people, and Polish entrepreneurs" - said Müller.

As he added, Poland is currently building a coalition of countries that want to stop some solutions. "Besides, hence the last various conversations of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki" - he noted.

"Fit for 55" is a package of legislative proposals announced in July last year by the European Commission, adjusting legal acts in the field of climate and energy to the increased target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the EU by 2030 from 40 to 55 percent. - in relation to the level from 1990. It will require investments estimated at approx. EUR 500 billion annually by 2030 (EUR 350 billion more than in 2011-2020).
