The US offers Poland a 100-year partnership

On Monday, the US Ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzezinski, and the President of Westinghouse Poland presented the Minister of Climate, Anna Moskwa, with a "Conceptual and executive report on cooperation in the Civil Nuclear Energy". Brzezinski stressed that "the United States offers Poland a 100-year partnership involving world-class technology and financing that will enable the creation of a Polish nuclear power program."

The climate and environment ministry said on Monday that the report "is a detailed bilateral roadmap to lead to the construction of six large-scale reactors based on US technology." It also creates a framework for strategic cooperation between the US and Poland in civil nuclear energy. The report fulfills the obligation of the Polish-American intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in civil nuclear energy signed in October 2020.

In line with the Polish Nuclear Power Program, Poland plans to build modern but proven large PWR-type reactors. The Polish Energy Policy assumes that in 2033 the first block of the Polish nuclear power plant with a capacity of approx. 1-1.6 GW will be put into operation. Subsequent blocks will be implemented every 2-3 years, and the entire nuclear program provides for the construction of six units with a capacity of up to 9 GW.
