Moscow: Red Square was closed for New Years' celebrations, brutal arrests


 Polish news portal Niezalezna_pl: Moscow closed Red Square for New Year's Eve so people began to gather in the city center. Videos have appeared on social media showing the brutal actions of the Russian police. - "In the center of Moscow, the police catch and beat random passersby," the SOTA telegram channel wrote.

Apparently, the Moscow authorities decided to close Red Square - from 5 pm on December 31. Closure is expected to last until 7am on New Year's Day. The official reason is the risk of spreading the coronavirus. The services were also to take "control and preventive" actions related to "limiting large groups of people".

The msk1.ru portal reports that thousands of people gathered in the center of Moscow on New Year's Eve.
