A week ago, if you asked me, or any Pole, who stopped the Missile Shield in Poland a week ago, my answer would be President Obama.
While the final decision came from the United States President, it now appears that he simply had no choice.
According to last night's episode of a documentary series, 'Reset,' the Prime Minister of Poland at the time, Donald Tusk, did absolutely everything he could to stop the project. What is shocking, he apparently did that after consulting with Vladimir Putin a year earlier.
Niezalezna(.)pl: In the third installment of the series, the creators focused on the American perspective of the "reset" policy and the talks between the then Prime Minister of Poland and the President of the United States.
“I will say one more thing that I will not say publicly. When I was in Russia, I managed to unfreeze relations. That's what we wanted. But it cost something. It was not an easy task. And everything was fine until we brought up the subject of missile defense." - this is what Donald Tusk said in a conversation with George W. Bush during his visit to Washington in March 2008.
Documents describing the details of those events were recently declassified by the American side, and for the first time in Poland, they were made public in the third episode of the documentary series "Reset."
The more we learn from this series, the less we should wonder why the EU politicians are so much against the establishment by the Polish Parliament of the special commission to investigate Russian influence in Poland (and Europe). Their candidate (see yesterday's post), Donald Tusk, has fewer and fewer chances to win elections.
