Former presidential candidate may be implicated in bribery scandal

Niezalezna(.)pl: Tomasz Sakiewicz, a publisher and editor of Polish Gazette, submitted a notification to the prosecutor's office about the possibility that Rafał Trzaskowski, the president (mayor) of City of Warsaw and former presidential candidate, has committed a crime under Art. 231 § 1 of the Penal Code by acting to the detriment of the city owned waste management company, MPO.

In a court case against Sakiewicz, "Trzaskowski sent a document that absolutely proves that he exceeded his powers, and in any case, it can be very hard evidence of it," - said editor in an interview.

The case is related to the findings of "Gazeta Polska" on corruption in the capital. A journalistic investigation showed that it was supposed to be facilitated by the decisions of Warsaw's city hall, headed by Rafał Trzaskowski. According to investigation the mayor has raised the limits of the contracts after which they are subject to vote of the management board from 10 miliion PLN to a much greater amount, 3 billion PLN.

"President Trzaskowski decided to take me and my media to court, believing that the article about how the city led - or he led - to a corruption scandal, violated his personal rights. The whole problem is that Trzaskowski sent a document that absolutely proves that he exceeded his powers, and in any case, it may be very hard evidence of it. And it was as a result of exceeding these powers that the entire bribery scandal was possible,"
– says Tomasz Sakiewicz in an interview with Niezalezna.
