Niezalezna(.)pl: In the Canadian Parliament, Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota honored 98-year-old Jarosław Hunka, who served in the 14th SS Grenadier Division during World War II, calling him a "hero of Ukraine and Canada." - There is no consent to whitewash the villains, I expect an apology - said the Polish ambassador in Ottawa, Witold Dzielski.
"On Friday, Canadian and Ukrainian leaders honored a member of the Waffen SS Galizien, the notorious Ukrainian formation from World War II, responsible for the murder of thousands of Poles and Jews. Poland is the best ally Ukraine has, we will never agree to whitewash such villains! As ambassador of RP (Republic of Poland) in Canada, I expect an apology" – Dzielski wrote on the X platform.
The Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota issued a statement in which he noted that it was only later that he learned "new information" that made him regret his decision to honor Hunka. He added that he was fully responsible for this action, which was not consulted with other parliamentarians and the Ukrainian delegation present in the meeting room. The Speaker emphasized that his "deepest apologies" go especially to the Canadian and global Jewish community.
In other words he never apologized to Poles.
Canadian politicians seem not to notice that Poles, the regular people not just politicians, are really upset about this situation. Waffen SS was the worst of the worst.
