Mass grave of Poles killed in 1945 by Ukrainian nationalists was found. Permission for exhumation has been requested

Wpolityce(.)pl: In Puźniki, Ukraine, Polish and Ukrainian specialists found a mass grave in which the bodies of murdered villagers, victims of Ukrainian nationalists, were placed in 1945. The Ukrainian authorities have been asked to consent to the exhumation, Michał Dworczyk, Minister at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński said that "in accordance with applicable regulations, permission was sought from the relevant Ukrainian authorities to carry out exhumation, research and dignified burial." He pointed out that "this is the first case in over 9 years that the remains of Poles, victims of Ukrainian nationalists, have been found in Ukraine."

The search site was visited by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in July, and efforts to issue appropriate permits were supported by President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński.

The Minister at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister congratulated the organizers of the search - the Freedom and Democracy Foundation!

In July, Prime Minister Morawiecki wrote: "We must close this painful wound in the history of the Polish and Ukrainian nations. The path to this is through reliable research work by experts and historians, as well as the search for the remains of victims, exhumations - and burials."
