Wpolityce(.)pl: Włodzimierz K, who is in custody, agreed to take up the mandate of an MEP.
“Shame. We will witness the political transfer of the century. The media reports that Włodzimierz Karpiński intends to take up the mandate of an MEP. The Civic Coalition politician is currently in custody because he is suspected of corruption activities and participation in the so-called garbage scandal in Warsaw," wrote Tobiasz Bocheński, the Masovian Voivode, on social media.
Karpiński ran in the 2019 elections but did not win a mandate. Krzysztof Hetman was elected, but this year received a mandate as a member of the Sejm. His place could have been taken by Joanna Mucha, but she also got into the Sejm. The next person waiting to join the European Parliament was Riad Haidar, but he died in May. In this way, the mandate goes to Włodzimierz Karpiński.
Niezalezna(.)pl: According to information obtained by the Polish Press Agency, Karpiński will not get away with corruption charges so easily despite taking up the mandate of an MEP. Regardless of the reports that he intends to take up the mandate, the prosecutor's office will, in the coming days, submit a request to the court for another extension of his pre-trial detention.
"He will be in the company of other MEPs facing corruption allegations. I hope they all lose their seats," - said former Prime Minister Beata Szydło.
