Poland has his own Trump-like presidential candidate, Karol Nawrocki

Only a week ago, the main opposition party, Law and Justice (PiS), chose to support an independent presidential candidate, Karol Nawrocki. Public (or government-controlled) media describe 41-year-old Nawrocki as a politically inexperienced candidate. Yet, his popularity is quickly rising not just on the political right but also, most importantly, among independents, and he is already in the lead. This can only be compared to Donald Trump's rise in popularity in 2016 and 2024.

Nawrocki never held a government post. He entered the public eye in Poland in 2017 when he was appointed director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.

In July 2021, the Polish parliament appointed Nawrocki president of the Institute of National Remembrance. The institute was set up in 1998 to investigate crimes committed in Poland from 1917 to 1990, spanning both the Nazi and Soviet eras.

He is the author and editor of several books on contemporary Polish history.

He is also wanted by the Russian Federation on criminal charges due to his role in the removal of monuments commemorating the presence of the Red Army on Polish territory. All of them were erected during Russian domination of the Polish People’s Republic to honor the Soviet forces’ role in the war and Poland's post-war "independence."

This morning, the Law and Justice's Political Council unanimously approved Karol Nawrocki's candidacy for president. This means PiS will not have its own candidate and will support Nawrocki. The unanimous decision was announced on X/Twitter.

Politicians of the largest opposition party emphasize that the presidential candidate announced last Sunday is non-partisan, although supported by their party.

Watching Mr. Nawrocki's campaign will be interesting as he has already ruffled some feathers among the governing coalition.

PM testified in his lawsuit against "Gazeta Polska" weekly

Prime Minister Donald Tusk testified in court in a lawsuit he brought against "Gazeta Polska." – "In my opinion, we were dealing here with a very brutal crossing of red lines" – he said.

The case is related to the cover of a weekly magazine from 2022. In it, we can see Donald Tusk with an outstretched fist. A shadow falls on his upper lip, reminiscent of Adolf Hitler's characteristic mustache. Under the photo, there is the slogan "Gott mit uns" ("God with us"), adopted in 1701 as the state motto of the Kingdom of Prussia, used during World War II by the German army (and until the 1970s).

Donald Tusk filed a lawsuit against "Gazeta Polska" and Tomasz Sakiewicz for infringement of personal rights. The trial in this case began on Friday at the District Court in Warsaw. The head of government gave his testimony remotely.

"Do you know of an example of a prime minister of any democratic country who took journalists to court over a satirical cover?" - Tomasz Sakiewicz, the editor-in-chief of Gazeta Polska, asked Donald Tusk during his testimony.

"I don't think I need to convince anyone or prove that I am not abusing the Polish justice system or my right to sue the authors of hateful materials about me. I couldn't do anything else but file lawsuits from morning to evening. That I filed a lawsuit in this case is certainly not proof of my hypersensitivity. Still, in my deep belief, it is caused by a radical crossing of any boundary of decency and the law," – said Tusk.

The Prime Minister wants an apology and a payment of PLN 100,000 from the defendant for the Polish Humanitarian Action. 

PN: Polish politicians have a history of suing their opponents, not asking for anything for themselves but demanding steep penalties paid to "humanitarian" causes. This ensures financial ruin for many and discourages others from speaking out.

The politician turned to the MEPs of the above-mentioned groups. "I am appealing to the MEPs of KO, PSL, Poland 2050 and the Left, who fully agreed to the statement of their European parliamentary groups expressing support for the implementation of the green commune in Poland and the forced flooding of us with immigrants - you all fall under the Article 129 of the Penal Code on diplomatic treason, i.e. open action to the detriment of the Republic of Poland," she wrote.

"As if that were not enough, the statement also expresses support for the so-called conditionality mechanism (i.e. blackmail against EU countries on the basis of "either you do what we want or you don't get the money"), the introduction of new EU taxes and fees as well as treaty changes so that nation states still have less to say!" – writes Zajączkowska-Hernik.

Ukraine confirmed that there are no obstacles to conducting exhumation work in Volhynia

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Poland and Ukraine, Radosław Sikorski and Andrei Sybiha, adopted a joint statement in which Ukraine confirmed that there are no obstacles to conducting search and exhumation work on the remains of Polish victims of wars and conflicts on its territory.

At a press conference in Yerevan, President Andrzej Duda asked whether that means progress in Polish-Ukrainian talks and whether the government has succeeded. He emphasized that we could call it successful when the search and exhumation work began. He pointed out that he has been constantly and systematically discussing this topic with Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky, for some time now.

Since the spring of 2017, there has been an ongoing dispute between Warsaw and Kyiv over the ban on the search and exhumation of the remains of Polish victims of wars and conflicts on the territory of Ukraine introduced by the Ukrainian authorities. The ban was issued after the monument to the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in Hruszowice was dismantled in April 2017.

Poland and Ukraine have been divided for many years by the memory of the role of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which in 1943-45 committed genocidal ethnic cleansing of approximately 100,000 Polish men, women and children. While for the Polish side, it was a condemnable crime of genocide (mass and organized), for the Ukrainians, it was the result of a symmetrical armed conflict for which both sides were equally responsible. Additionally, Ukrainians want to perceive the OUN and UPA only as anti-Soviet organizations (due to their post-war resistance to the USSR), and not anti-Polish organizations.

In 2017-2024, the Institute of National Remembrance submitted nine official general requests to the Ukrainian administration, including an agreement to conduct search and exhumation work in 65 locations. Some were approved, and work was carried out; consent was not given in other places, and some applications remained unanswered.

Polish portal Defence24: Koreans crushed to dust in Ukraine

 A video showing an injured North Korean soldier appeared on social media. He talks about how his unit was defeated by the Ukrainians and the treatment of North Korean soldiers by the Russians.

“There were 40 of us, but they all died. There's only me, and I have nothing left to lose. The Russians ordered us to attack. The enemy pinned us down with drones and artillery," says a wounded soldier from North Korea. "The Russians assured us that we would be delegated to build and guard the fortifications. Instead, they sent us to fight in the Kursk region. The Ukrainians killed everyone (…). It was a meat grinder (…). The Russians didn't provide us with anything; they just threw us into the assault. No reconnaissance, no ammunition, and no normal weapons," he added.

Presidential race in Poland: The new favorite is on the Most Wanted List ... in Russia

TV Republika reported on Thursday evening that Dr. Karol Nawrocki, president of the Institute of National Remembrance, will become a candidate in the elections for the president of Poland. 

The database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia contains the list of people wanted by Russian law enforcement agencies. Among citizens of Russia or former USSR, there is a name of Dr. Karol Nawrocki. 

This is due to his function as the president of the Institute of National Remembrance, which in recent years has toppled many Soviet monuments throughout Poland.

Being on that list made the (possible) presidential candidate an instant favorite for many Poles.

Administracja Bidena informuje Kongres, że wybaczy Ukrainie pożyczki w wysokości 5 miliardów dolarów

Polish politicians follow a "winning" strategy of ... Kamala Harris

Which strategy of Kamala Harris and Democratic Party is the most popular among the politicians from governing Civic Coalition?

It seems that they chose a strategy used by Democrats in Florida and North Carolina, not providing help to flood victims who happen to be Trump supporters. 

In Poland, they decided to improve upon this idea. They simply decided  not to help anybody in entire towns and small cities, regardless of whom they voted for.

“Everyone has forgotten about us,” call the inhabitants of the flood-affected areas. There are still no benefits for renovation and reconstruction of houses, there are no renovation teams, ordinary people have not yet seen a penny from PLN 100,000 ($24,500) and PLN 200,000 ($48,800) promised by the state.

"We went to the elections and voted for them. And now I see that everything is suspended in a vacuum. Politics is about giving a pat on the back, and that's all. That's where it ends." 

There have been many warnings about liberals' policies for many years. Today, we see the Polish state becoming weaker and weaker. And no one should be surprised that it's happening again under Donald Tusk. 

Only the time will tell if these policies will work in Poland. The presidential elections will take place in May 2025.

Millions from EC funds for the defense sectors of France and Germany, but nothing for Poland

The European Commission announced arms projects that will receive funding for the development of production and research and development capacity under the EDIRPA program. Poland has submitted six defense sector products to the program, including the Piorun Man-Portable Anti-Aircraft Missile Systems (PPZR), which is receiving favorable reviews all over the world. An American anti-missile base was officially opened in Redzikowo, Pomerania.

According to available information, the base  includes, among others: Aegis Ashore system – a land-based equivalent of the Aegis anti-missile system mounted on ships, used to defend against ballistic missiles. The base in Redzikowo equipped with this system, next to the twin base in Deveselu, Romania, is to be used to defend Europe against medium-range (1,000-3,000 km) and intermediate-range (3,000-5,500 km) missiles.

Saturday Night Live mogło złamać prawo dotyczące czasu antenowego występem Kamali Harris

 Urzędnik Federalnego Komitetu ds. Komunikacji stwierdził, że emitowany przez NBC program rozrywkowy „Saturday Night Live” mógł złamać federalne przepisy regulujące czas antenowy wraz z pojawieniem się w ten weekend wiceprezydent Kamali Harris.

Komisarz FCC Brendan Carr twierdzi, że wystąpienie mogło naruszyć zasadę równego czasu antenowego, czyli wymóg, zgodnie z którym organizacje nadawców publicznych oferują porównywalny czas i miejsce kwalifikującym się kandydatom podczas głównych wyborów.

Carr powiedział, że pojawienie się Harrisa w SNL mogło złamać tę zasadę, gdyby NBC nie wysłała również zaproszenia byłemu prezydentowi Trumpowi.

„To wyraźna i rażąca próba obejścia zasady FCC dotyczącej równego czasu pracy” – Carr napisał o występie Harrisa. „Celem tej zasady jest uniknięcie dokładnie tego rodzaju stronniczego postępowania – gdy licencjonowany nadawca wykorzystuje publiczne fale radiowe, aby w przededniu wyborów wywrzeć wpływ na rzecz jednego kandydata. Chyba że nadawca zaoferował równy czas innym kandydatom.”

Starszy doradca kampanii Trumpa, Jason Miller, powiedział Fox News Digital, że Trump nie otrzymał zaproszenia. W raporcie NBC News stwierdzono również, że rzecznik SNL „nie odpowiedział na prośbę o komentarz na temat tego, czy zaproszono Trumpa”.

A journalist from TV Republic was not allowed into the crisis headquarters because he "attacked an officer"

 On September 17, the flood crisis team met in Wrocław with Prime Minister Donald Tusk's participation. TV Republika's reporter Janusz Zyskkowski appeared on site and wanted to ask questions about the current flood situation on behalf of millions of viewers. Unfortunately, the reporter was not allowed into the conference and was told he was "not on the list."

A few days later, the Platform for the Protection and Safety of Journalists, a project of the Council of Europe, was notified about this case.

The Platform for the Protection of Journalists has indicated that it expects all media to be provided with equal access to public meetings and press conferences.

The Platform authorities classified the case as "intimidation and harassment of journalists" and assigned it "level 2" as a threat to media freedom.

An interpellation on this matter was submitted to the Speaker of the Sejm - Szymon Hołownia - by PiS MPs. A response came from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, signed by the head of the Chancellery - Jan Grabiec:

"The Chancellery of the Prime Minister makes every effort to provide all citizens with equal access to information on the work of the government and enables following the speeches of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. During the September flood, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister broadcast live all meetings of the crisis staff, which took place on September 16-25, 2024. Broadcasts of the above-mentioned meetings were published on the Chancellery's official social media profiles. In addition, each of the above-mentioned broadcasts was published on YouTube. Thanks to this, anyone interested in the course of the crisis team's meetings could watch the full course of each of them at any time. Media that were not present at a given meeting could also make the broadcast available to their viewers in real time and play these materials at any time."

"The Chancellery of the Prime Minister ensures access to information for the media, in accordance with Art. 54 section 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland and art. 2 of the Press Law. All media are subject to the same rules for obtaining accreditation and must always submit applications within the prescribed deadline. During organized media events, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister is obliged to maintain order and ensure absolute safety of all participants (and in particular the Prime Minister and members of the Government). If any medium violates the rules, we reserve the right to refuse accreditation."

Here comes the most interesting bit from the government. The never before-made allegation, something we are expected to believe, of the attack by a reporter on an unsuspecting officer of the State Protection Service (SOP):

"Before a meeting of one of the staff, on September 16, 2024, there was an attack by a representative of TV Republika on a SOP officer. This is unacceptable behavior and cannot affect the accreditation process. The Chancellery of the Prime Minister has been granting accreditations to editorial offices since the beginning of the term of office of the current Government. Regardless of the materials they presented, TV Republika, like other editorial offices, regularly received accreditations for media events organized by the Government Information Center. However, representatives of TV Republika repeatedly failed to comply with the rules applicable to all media participating in the events. They disrupted the course of events organized by the Government Information Center."

PN: In other words, the official explanation for why the reporters of TV Republika have (by my count) NEVER received entry into the current government's press conferences is that they stupidly always break the law right before such conferences. (I think I got that right.) And you thought that Big Tech's censorship against the American conservative media is bad.

Polish PM wants EU to "believe in its own strength," not Poland

Prime Minister Donald Tusk shared his "thoughts" on the US elections. As commentators note, he wrote between the lines about the need to transform the European Union into a large European state. 

The Prime Minister Donald Tusk posted on X:

'Harris or Trump? Some claim that the future of Europe depends on the American elections, while it depends first and foremost on us. On condition Europe finally grows up and believes in its own strength. Whatever the outcome, the era of geopolitical outsourcing is over.'

A former deputy foreign minister Paweł Jabłoński, commented:

"Tusk is basically directly signaling his intention to weaken transatlantic relations - contemptuously calling the alliance with the US 'geopolitical outsourcing' sounds very bad (of course, Germans are happy - it is in their interest)."

Biały Dom zmienił transkrypcje Bidena porównującego zwolenników Trumpa do „śmieci”

Fox News Digital potwierdził, że Biały Dom zmienił transkrypcję kontrowersyjnego „śmieciowego” komentarza prezydenta Bidena pomimo obaw stenografów.

W e-mailu obejrzanym przez Fox News Digital przełożony stenografów podniósł alarm w związku z „naruszeniem protokołu i naruszeniem integralności transkrypcji pomiędzy biurem stenografii a biurem prasowym” przez biuro prasowe Białego Domu. 

„W przypadku różnicy w interpretacji Biuro Prasowe może zdecydować o wstrzymaniu transkrypcji, ale nie może jej samodzielnie edytować” – napisał przełożony w e-mailu. „Transkrypcja naszego Biura Stenograficznego – udostępniona w naszej dystrybucji, która obejmuje Archiwum Narodowe – różni się teraz od wersji zredagowanej i udostępnionej publicznie przez pracowników Biura Prasowego”.

PN: Ważne jest to, że sekretarz prasowy Bidena może teraz twierdzić, że Biden nigdy nie mówił tego w ten sposób.

Republicans make the case to Polish-Americans for supporting Donald Trump

 Republicans for National Renewal (RNR) has published a report titled, ‘Why Polish-Americans should vote for Donald Trump’.

In the report, RNR’s Policy Director Harry Albert Turkington makes the case to Polish-Americans, a prominent and traditionally Democratic voting bloc across the Midwest, for supporting the Republican ticket of Donald Trump and JD Vance in the 2024 presidential election. It details domestic policy reasons of interest to Polish-American voters, as well as the Biden administration’s support for human rights abuses committed by the liberal government in Poland.
