Watching human and environmental tragedy in California, we also learn that the Polish government is trying to put the National Forest Holding 'State Forests' out of business. State Forests is a governmental, self-sufficient organization that manages state-owned Polish forests on behalf of the Polish State Treasury.
Paweł Sałek, vice-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry, told the Wpolityce portal:
Today, through alleged great nature conservation slogans, it is said that we will "protect" nature, and at the same time hundreds of thousands of acres are being excluded from use of forest management. They simply want to bring this company to economic collapse.
At the same time, it is said that 2.5 thousand wind turbines will be built in the state-owned forests. (…) Where are all those who supposedly have the good of nature at heart? Why aren't they protesting?
PN: It would not be controversial if we knew those wind farms were safe. Besides the fact that they kill untold numbers of birds and bats, they also easily self-destruct. The common problem is that they catch on fire, often from ... too much wind. Now imagine such fire in the middle of the forest during drought; as memory serves, Poland has droughts quite frequently (and they occurred long before 'global warming').
