President Andrzej Duda had some strong words for Prime Minister Donald Tusk, responding to his suggestions for a recount of votes in the presidential election. In his post on Platform X, the president called on the leader of the Civic Platform to stop provocations and respect the democratic choice of Poles.
It started with a post by Donald Tusk, in which he addressed President Andrzej Duda, President-elect Karol Nawrocki and PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński. The Prime Minister wrote:
"Mr. Andrzej Duda, Mr. Karol Nawrocki and Mr. Jarosław Kaczyński - aren't you not simply curious about the real results of the vote? You certainly are. And as we know, honest people have nothing to fear."
President Andrzej Duda responded firmly to these insinuations. "Mr. Donald Tusk and his colleagues cannot come to terms with losing the presidential election,"... "You think you have to win, and that's it! What you are doing now is just stamping your feet," the president concluded.
Andrzej Duda pointed out the prime minister's hypocrisy, reminding us that it was people associated with the current ruling coalition who staffed the electoral commissions. "You staffed all the electoral commissions with your people and the people in trust of the candidates of your coalition groups. You elected and have your own members of the National Electoral Commission," he wrote. He asked rhetorically whether all of them, including the organizations conducting the polls, had conspired to make the coalition candidate lose.
The president stated that he was not curious about the results because he knew them – they were officially announced by the National Electoral Commission. He added that they were also known to politicians from all over the world, "who congratulated President-Elect Karol Nawrocki." Congratulations to Karol Nawrocki came from, among others, the leaders of the USA, Germany, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania.
In the further part of his statement, emphasizing his role as guardian of security and continuity of state power, Andrzej Duda addressed blunt advice to Donald Tusk: "stay away from the ballot papers from the presidential elections! I have no doubt that you must not be allowed to even touch the votes cast by citizens."
He emphasized that the verification of elections is the competence of the Supreme Court and the National Electoral Commission. He reminded Donald Tusk that it was "the same Chamber of the Supreme Court that recognized the election result, thanks to which you now rule in Poland. The same one, thanks to which you are now Prime Minister."
