Another attempt to remove von der Leyen from office was initiated by the right-wing Patriots for Europe faction in response to the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, pushed through by a group of countries led by Germany. The European Commission deliberately divided the agreement into two parts to enable a qualified majority voting procedure and exclude the possibility of a veto. Ursula von der Leyen is expected to sign it tomorrow, and only later will it be put to a vote in the European Parliament.
Polish MEP Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik from the Confederation party announced that the motion is scheduled for a vote at the plenary session in Strasbourg in just a few days, between January 19 and 21. If the motion is passed, it would require the resignation of all 27 European commissioners.
"The EU was supposed to have high standards and respect for democratic principles, but instead [...] democracy, as practiced by the EU's pseudo-elites, led by von der Leyen, has become a complete joke," reads a post on Zajączkowska-Hernik's social media profiles.
