The EU increases medical stocks. They will be stored in nine countries

Nine EU countries will store these materials should the situation worsen with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The inventory currently includes over 65 million medical masks and 15 million FFP2 and FFP3 masks, over 280 million pairs of medical gloves, nearly 20 million medical gowns, and several thousand oxygen concentrators and respirators.

This joint stock of life-saving medical equipment is to be distributed across Europe in medical emergencies, for example, when national healthcare systems are overwhelmed by significant numbers of coronavirus patients. Under the Civil Protection Mechanism, basic medical products have so far been delivered to Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.

The reserve is the 'last resort' of the EU's protection mechanism. It can be activated against all types of natural and man-made threats. EU Member States as well as Iceland, Norway, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Turkey, participate in the program. Source: Polish Press Agency PAP.
