Bloody Sunday

July 11, 1943, marked the event known as "Bloody Sunday." Partisan units of Ukrainian nationalists, supported by the civilian population, attacked settlements in Volhynia. It was a meticulously planned operation. People were ruthlessly murdered regardless of age or gender (there was talk of the necessity to exterminate all Poles, tracing back seven generations).

Pre-war Volhynia Voivodeship in the Eastern Borderlands was a territory then occupied by the German Third Reich.

The "Bloody Sunday" was the culmination of the Volhynian massacres. On July 11, we observe the National Day of Remembrance for Poles—Victims of the Genocide committed by the OUN and UPA.

This day marked the peak of the Volhynian Massacres. At dawn, UPA units—often with the active support of the local Ukrainian population—simultaneously surrounded and attacked 99 Polish villages in the Kovel, Volodymyr, and Horokhiv counties, as well as parts of the Lutsk county. The civilian population was exterminated, and property was destroyed; villages were burned and belongings looted. Researchers estimate that approximately 8,000 Poles—mostly women, children, and the elderly—may have perished on that single day alone. Poles were killed by bullets, axes, pitchforks, knives, and other implements, often while inside churches during Holy Mass or other religious services.

July 10, 1943, is considered the symbolic date for the genocide in Volhynia; on that day, UPA members tore apart—using horses—Zygmunt Rumel, a representative of the Polish Underground State who had been sent to negotiate with them. Following this atrocity, mass murders of the Polish population began in Volhynia and later in Eastern Lesser Poland. It is estimated that Ukrainian nationalists, supported by the peasantry, attacked Poles living in 4,300 localities. Near destroyed villages and hamlets, nameless mass graves remain, concealing the bodies—often mutilated—of Polish inhabitants of the Kresy.

However, the goal of Ukrainian nationalists was not merely the physical elimination of the Polish community but also the eradication of all traces testifying to the centuries-long Polish presence in the Kresy. Consequently, alongside the acts of genocide, they destroyed Polish cultural assets and monuments and struck at the region's economy by burning Polish settlements to the ground, targeting Catholic churches with particular ferocity.

Between 1943 and 1945, Ukrainian nationalists murdered between 80,000 and 120,000 Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Lesser Poland. It is impossible to determine the precise number of victims.

5 Ways Pulaski Changed the Revolutionary War

1. Saved George Washington’s Life at Brandywine

During the September 1777 Battle of Brandywine, the British launched a flanking attack that threatened to trap the American army and capture George Washington. Pulaski personally led a desperate cavalry charge that halted the British advance, successfully holding off the enemy long enough to allow the Continental Army to retreat.

2. Built the First Official American Cavalry

When Casimir Pulaski arrived in America, the Continental Army did not have a functional, unified cavalry system. Horsemen were scattered across different state militias, poorly equipped, and used almost exclusively as couriers or scouts rather than a cohesive combat weapon.

On September 15, 1777, Congress appointed Pulaski as Commander of the Horse with the rank of Brigadier General. This action placed all four existing Continental light dragoon regiments under a single, unified commander for the first time. By standardizing their organizational structure, he laid the permanent institutional foundation for what would eventually become the modern U.S. Army Cavalry.

He wrote the army's very first regulations for cavalry operations. He transitioned horsemen away from passive scouting duties and trained them to act as a decisive force capable of breaking enemy infantry
lines. His soldiers trained to fight both on horseback and on foot.

He mandated that cavalry units could not be detached for service without the direct order of the Commander-in-Chief (Washington) or a divisional commander, ensuring all horsemen remained under unified authority.

3. Standardized Training and Weaponry

Pulaski called for the appointment of a "Master of Exercise" to drill officers continuously in specialized cavalry duties.
He banned the American habit of halting to fire pistols from horseback. Instead, he taught riders to charge at full gallop in tight formations, using the physical mass of the horses and lances or sabers to shatter enemy infantry lines.
His troops had to master complex maneuvers, sudden wheeling pivots, and mounting/dismounting at high speeds.
Pulaski introduced the lance to the American military. He argued that a spear-like weapon gave horsemen a reach advantage over British infantry bayonets.
He mandated a saber as the primary weapon, shifting tactics from shooting at a distance to aggressive, close-quarters slashing.

4. Established the Multinational Pulaski Legion

Frustrated by bureaucratic limitations, Pulaski requested permission from Congress in 1778 to form his own independent corps known as Pulaski's Legion. This highly disciplined, mixed-unit force of cavalry and light infantry served as a rapid-response unit and pioneered early American guerrilla warfare tactics.

5. Turned the Tide of the Southern Theater.

Pulaski and his Legion turned the tide of the Southern Theater by saving Charleston from immediate surrender in May 1779. At a time when the British "Southern Strategy" threatened to completely crush the rebellion in the South, Pulaski's aggressive tactics and refusal to back down injected vital morale into a collapsing American front.

Exile Who Saved Washington's Army

As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, it is worth remembering one of the American Revolution's most remarkable heroes.

I recently began my journey as a self-published author and would like to share the story of a man whose contributions to American independence deserve far greater recognition.

Casimir Pulaski arrived in America as a political exile from Poland. Within months, he helped save George Washington's army at the Battle of Brandywine and went on to create what became the foundation of the American cavalry.

He fought for two revolutions, on two continents, and ultimately gave his life for American independence.

Yet many Americans have never heard his story.

If America's 250th anniversary inspires you to learn more about the people who helped secure our freedom, I invite you to read:

Memorial Day 2026

Here are powerful Memorial Day quotes to honor our Fallen Heroes:

„Nasz dług wobec bohaterskich mężczyzn i dzielnych kobiet służących naszemu krajowi nigdy nie zdoła zostać spłacony. Zyskali oni naszą wieczną wdzięczność”. — Harry S. Truman

— Winston Churchill

The European Commission plans to ignore President Karol Nawrocki's veto

TVP's correspondent in Brussels allegedly received information that the European Commission plans to make payments to Poland under SAFE, even if President Karol Nawrocki does not sign the law concerning this program.

It is sufficient for Poland to approve the program and designate a Polish plenipotentiary to sign the agreement.

If that happens the European Commission will officially ignore the Polish law, and constitution, which says that such a huge loan has to be approved by Polish parliament and signed by the President of Polish Republic. That would be the same European Commission that was so concerned with the rule of law in Poland under conservative government.

President Nawrocki called Macron's proposals unserious

French President Emmanuel Macron presented a vision for a new French nuclear deterrent on Monday, proposing cooperation with other European countries, including Poland, and announcing an increase in the number of French warheads.

Also on Monday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk posted a message in which he said that "Poland is holding talks with France and a group of its closest European allies regarding an advanced nuclear deterrence program."

Today, President Nawrocki commented on this proposal during a joint conference with the President of Romania:

"Cooperation with NATO and the US guarantees a compatible level of security in Poland and the region. I must honestly say that such often nervous moves by the president, whom I extend my warmest regards to, President Macron, who will cease to be president in a year for objective reasons, in France, and on the other hand, such ad hoc references by Prime Minister Tusk at a time when we have signed the Treaty of Nancy, which took two years to develop and contained no such proposals. In my opinion, given the stable Polish-American alliance and the operation of NATO, all these efforts seem completely frivolous to me as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces..."

Polish government is not interested in helping it's citizens to evacuate from Middle East

Thousands of Poles are stranded in the Middle East following the Israeli-American attack on Iran. Their stay in the Persian Gulf countries was not only for recreation but also for business or family reasons—visiting loved ones living in this part of the world. Poles for whom Dubai airport, for example, was merely a transfer point, constitute a significant portion. Unfortunately, none of these groups can count on the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' interest.

"... we have no information. No one from the government showed any interested."

Radosław Sikorski's foreign ministry claims it is waiting for the conflict to end.

Operacja Epic Fury to druga interwencja militarna Stanów Zjednoczonych przeciwko Iranowi po Operacji Midnight Hammer z czerwca 2025 r., podczas której Amerykanie „zniszczyli” irańskie obiekty nuklearne.

March 1st in Poland is the National Remembrance Day of the Cursed Soldiers

"On March 1st, the National Remembrance Day of the Cursed Soldiers, we pay tribute to the heroes of the post-war independence underground. >>Those who remained loyal to a free Poland after 1945, refusing to accept Soviet domination. They paid for this with imprisonment, torture, and death,<<" says a statement on the official website of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.

"Today we are restoring their rightful place in history to those whom the communist system tried to erase from national memory."

"Their steadfastness, loyalty, and willingness to make the greatest sacrifices remain a model of patriotism and responsibility for the state. Poland is proud of them."

This year, the National Remembrance Day of the Cursed Soldiers has a special dimension - it marks exactly 75 years since the execution of the death sentence (by a single shot to the back of the head) on the members of the 4th Main Board of the "Freedom and Independence" Association - Łukasz Ciepliński, Mieczysław Kawalec, Józef Batory, Adam Lazarowicz, Franciszek Błażej, Karol Chmiel and Józef Rzepka.

It is sad – in 2026, we have Włodzimierz Czarzasty as Speaker of the Sejm, and the left intends to enforce compensation for the "victims of the Cursed Soldiers." Lies, and a barrage of epithets are once again being leveled against the Cursed Soldiers – both in journalism and in statements by left-wing representatives. Just like in the old communist days. And once again, we must stand up for the Cursed – the fight for memory continues – writes Tomasz Łysiak in a column for the niezalezna.pl portal.

Beyond the physical annihilation of the soldiers of the anti-communist underground, the security service officers of the communist regime aimed to completely "excommunicate" them—to strip them of the respect and esteem they enjoyed in society. "Our task," said one of the officers, "is not only to destroy you physically, but we must destroy you morally in the eyes of society." Therefore, a dark image of the soldiers of the anti-communist uprising was created—as thugs, murderers, and people devoid of conscience.

Last night, after participating in the Steadfast Run, Polish President Karol Nawrocki visited a burial place of those murdered by the secret police in 1945–1956 at the Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw.

An appeal to Polish senators to defend Polish schools in Lithuania against bold discrimination

Agnieszka Rynkiewicz wrote:

Dear Senators, Members of the Committee on Emigration and Contacts with Poles Abroad

I am writing to the Senators as a representative of the Parents' Committee of the Andrzej Stelmachowski Primary School in Stare Trakai, Lithuania, asking for help in saving the existence of two Polish schools in the Trakai region, which are victims of scandalous discrimination on the basis of nationality perpetrated by the regional authorities.

For over three years, the community of the Andrzej Stelmachowski Secondary School in Stare Trakai has been struggling with a sense of injustice and a lack of real support from the authorities of the Motherland. Despite protests, rallies, and the unequivocal opposition of parents, teachers, and students, the school was demoted to a branch of the Trakai Junior High School as of September 1, 2025. After more than three years of struggle by parents of students of the Longin Komołowski Secondary School in Polukny, the Trakai district authorities decided to close it down. The educational reorganization process will result in the school in Polukny operating only as a branch of another school, effectively closing it down. Parents of students from both schools protested several times in Vilnius in front of the Lithuanian government headquarters against the closure of the junior high schools. Just on November 28, 2025, the community of the Komołowski Secondary School celebrated the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the first regular Polish-language school in Polukny. It was also conducted in the town during the German and Soviet occupations. And now the institution has fallen into scandalous disrepair.

The issue of Polish schools is not just a local problem. It is also a test for the Polish authorities, as the closure of Polish schools in Lithuania violates the Polish-Lithuanian Treaty and the Council of Europe Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. We need real help to save our Polish schools. I requested assistance in this matter at the EU level during the meeting of the Intergroup on Traditional National and Linguistic Minorities at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on January 22nd of this year, convened at the request of the ECR Group. During the meeting, MEPs discussed the situation of Polish education in Lithuania, with particular emphasis on Polish schools in the Trakai district, which are victims of scandalous discrimination based on nationality. They also expressed surprise at the lack of a decisive response from the Polish authorities.

[...]

As a community of Polish schools being closed, we ask that the Senate of the Republic of Poland and the Polish authorities keep their word and take effective diplomatic steps to save the schools from de facto closure, which threatens the very existence of Polishness in the Trakai region. We are Poles in the Vilnius Region and await effective protection from the Motherland and the assistance of the Senate and the authorities of the Republic of Poland.

Sincerely,

Agnieszka Rynkiewicz

Parent Committee of the Andrzej Stelmachowski Primary School in Stare Trakai

Questions about EU's SAFE program

The Security Action for Europe (SAFE) instrument is a 2025 EU initiative providing up to €150 billion in loans for member states to boost defense procurement, focusing on ammunition, missiles, and critical infrastructure.  - That sounds great, but reality is far from that.

Przemysław Wipler (Confederation) revealed the details of a parliamentary defense committee meeting devoted to the SAFE program.

Wipler questioned, among others, earlier declarations by the Minister of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, that 80 percent of the funds would go to Polish companies.

According to the MP, the beneficiaries are "Polish" companies that are local extensions of the German giant Rheinmetall and Polish voters do not have full knowledge of what exactly the SAFE money will be spent on.

He emphasized that members of the National Defense Committee, on which he sits, were only given the opportunity to review the list of bills two days before the meeting. The document, comprising several hundred pages of technical nature in English, was made available to 52 parliamentarians in a single copy. Wipler pointed out that only a few were able to thoroughly analyze its content, as reading the entire document took several hours.

PiS senator Wojciech Skurkiewicz made this comments on the Senate floor:

You have prepared a document, which I have reviewed. A very important, classified document, which five senators have reviewed. I am surprised that a hundred people will vote for a document reviewed by five senators. Three members of the National Defense Committee, one of the Public Finance Committee members, and Senator Kwiatkowski. Do you know what you will vote for? Does the House know what it will vote for?

On top of that the government treats any criticism of the SAFE program as a pro-Russian treasonous behavior.

Berlin has higher crime rate than Poland

Statistics show that nearly 540,000 crimes were committed in the German capital, Berlin, in 2024, which means that there were approximately 146 criminal acts per 1,000 inhabitants.

Polish police have calculated that nearly 440,000 criminal offenses were committed in Poland in 2024. And we're talking about a population 10 times larger than the German capital.

President Nawrocki once again vetoed the virtually unchanged crypto-asset market law

The Chancellery of the President announced yesterday evening that President Karol Nawrocki had signed eight bills and vetoed two, including one for the second time. The President again vetoed the bill on the crypto-asset market, which authorized the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) to supervise the market.

"For the second time, I received a bill that was practically identical to the one I had previously vetoed. One detail was changed; fundamental errors were not corrected," said President Karol Nawrocki in a video published on X.

He stressed that "a bad law, even if passed a hundred times, is still a bad law."

FBI i służby wywiadowcze prowadzą śledztwo w sprawie zagranicznej ingerencji w wybory

Niepotwierdzone wyniki zostały mimo to zatwierdzone i przesłane. Lokale wyborcze otwarte do 2 w nocy. Zduplikowane numery seryjne skanerów i nieautoryzowane transfery danych z urządzeń pamięci masowej. Naruszenia procedur kontroli na każdym kroku. To nie są pomyłki".

The United States has severed all contact with the Speaker of the Polish Parliament, Włodzimierz Czarzasty.

US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose announced in a post on the X platform that the United States is immediately severing ties with the Speaker of the Polish Parliament.

"With immediate effect, we will no longer maintain contact or communicate with the Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, whose outrageous and unfounded insults directed at President Trump have become a serious obstacle to our excellent relations with Prime Minister Tusk and his government," - US Ambassador Tom Rose announced on X.

Opposition politicians unanimously commented that this is an embarrassment for the governing coalition and a blow to Polish-American relations.

"The second most powerful person in the country is causing conflict between us and our most important ally. This looks like a deliberate action and is very dangerous for Poland. His Russian connections should therefore be investigated and verified by the security services as soon as possible. Inaction in this matter clearly implicates Tusk,"  wrote MP Jacek Sasin.
